Name: 42nd ANNUAL MARCH 2nd CELEBRATIONS IN HUNTSVILLE
    Date: March 2, 2023
    Time: 9:15 AM - 2:00 PM CST
    Event Description:
Join us for Huntsville’s 42nd Annual Texas Independence Day and General Sam Houston Birthday Celebration on Thursday, March 2, 2023! Festivities will begin with a Reception from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at the Walker County Museum: Gibbs Powell Home. At 10:15 a.m., led by the SHSU ROTC, the traditional march to Sam Houston’s gravesite at Oakwood Cemetery will commence at Old Main Pit near Austin Hall. A special ceremony to honor General Sam Houston will take place at 11:00 a.m. at his gravesite and will include a presentation by author Dr. Gregg Dimmick as well as a “Baptized Texan Ceremony.” Following the ceremony, there will be a Luncheon at 12:30 p.m. in the Katy & E. Don Walker, Sr. Education Center. After the Luncheon, the celebration continues in the same location with a “Toast to Texas” and birthday cake. The exhibit, "Ladies of Influence: Significant Women in the Life of Sam Houston" will be on display in the north gallery of the Sam Houston Memorial Museum and Republic of Texas Presidential Library (the museum is offering free admission on March 2nd).
